Campbell-Rey is a design partnership and creative consultancy founded by Duncan Campbell and Charlotte Rey.
Working fluently across the fields of design, interiors and creative direction, their practice is united by a grounding in culture, a sense of irreverence and a playful, elegant aesthetic.
Together they have undertaken commissions for some of the worlds most innovative and desirable brands.
To celebrate the 250th anniversary of Baccarat, the legendary French crystal manufacturer, Campbell-Rey were commissioned as creative directors to oversee the design and photography of a commemorative coffee table book. The result is a 420-page celebration of craftsmanship and creativity that explores the art of crystal making and its finest examples from the 19th century until the present day. From the Imperial Russian Court, to the palaces of India, Baccarat has completed bespoke commissions for presidents, popes and kings, as well as working with some of the most prominent artists and designers of modern times including Salvador Dalí, Philippe Starck, Ettore Sottsass, Kenzo Takada and Coco Chanel.
In order to document the vast Baccarat archive as well as the many processes involved in the creation of hand made crystal, we conceived two shoots on location at the Baccarat factory. The first, photographed by Chris Brooks, was shot inside the manufacture capturing the techniques and skills of the craftsmen at work. The second, a still-life shoot by Patrick Schüttler, highlighted the most prominent and important pieces from the past 250 years. An image from the second shoot was also used for the posters of the Baccarat exhibition in 2015 at the Petit Palais in Paris.
